Poland became the seventh country to qualify for next year’s World Cup soccer championship in Mexico when it held Belgium to a scoreless tie in a qualifying game before 70,000 fans at Slaksi Stadium in Chorzow, Poland.
France, meanwhile saw its World Cup hopes dip when it was beaten, 2-0, by East Germany. In other qualifying games, England and Romania played to a 1-1 tie, and Switzerland and Ireland tied, 0-0. Turkey and Northern Ireland also played to a scoreless tie.
