The TVA’s nuclear licenses may be suspended.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, in a letter to Tennessee Valley Authority Chairman Charles Dean, said that the TVA, “by its continued poor performance has demonstrated ineffective management of its nuclear program.” The NRC asked Dean to respond to a formal NRC request for information that will be used to determine whether the TVA’s five nuclear power plant licenses should be modified or suspended or whether an application for a sixth license should be denied. The five nuclear plants are currently shut down because of various safety problems.
