The five-member City Council has voted unanimously to raise its monthly salary from $244 to $300 beginning in April. Council members’ salaries were last raised in April, 1984, from $221.
Besides the stipend, council members also receive a $150-a-month car allowance, and the city pays for travel or city-related expenditures, such as meals and document copying costs.
Council meetings are held once a month. In addition, City Clerk Betty Wallis said, council members often meet at least once a month for special sessions.
