No one has ever questioned the talent, the bloodlines, the handlers or the speed of Nihilator. The only doubt that anyone has ever had about the fastest pacer of all time is whether he could adapt to a half-mile track.
This afternoon, before a capacity crowd and 13 other horses, Nihilator will attempt to turn those question marks into exclamation marks in the 40th edition of the Little Brown Jug at Delaware County Fairgrounds.
A top field, which includes Marauder, the last horse to defeat the favorite, will hit the track in 13th and 14th races of the day. The top four finishers in each of two heats return in the 17th race on the way to deciding the victor in the third jewel of pacing’s Triple Crown.
