More Respect, Please

As deputy mayor for the city of Los Angeles for more than 10 years, Grace Montanez Davis has proven herself a capable city leader. As such, the article about her (by Mike Eberts, Sept. 5) deserved a more respectful headline than “Mayor’s Right Hand Man Is a Dedicated Woman.” Consider the reverse: “Deputy Mayor John Doe, Mayor’s Right Hand Woman Is a Dedicated Man.” One does not “promote” someone by referring to her as an honorary member of the opposite sex.
