Awards are given in five combined age groups with special awards presented to family partner teams of husband-wife, brother-sister, mother-daughter, father-son, sister-sister and brother-brother.

The unique competition has attracted high caliber competition in its previous editions. Ruth Wysocki, the conqueror of Mary Decker in the 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials 1500, and Tom Wysocki, who competed in the Olympic Trials, were 1983 winners.

In 1984, Karen and Craig Holm, the first married couple to qualify for the U.S. Olympic marathon trials, were the overall winning husband-wife team.

Foot Locker introduced the Partners program in 1983 to focus attention on the thousands of families and friends who regularly run together. It enabled many runners to compete together for the first time.

The race begins in front of the Griffith Park ranger station, located by the merry-go-round. Entry blanks are available at Foot Locker and Lady Foot Locker stores.

The winning husband-wife team at the Foot Locker finals will win a grand prize vacation in Hawaii, including one-week hotel stay, airfare and $500 spending money.
