The Agriculture Department reported that the Soviet Union bought an additional 1 million metric tons of U.S. corn--about 39.4 million bushels--for delivery in the year that will begin Oct. 1. Officials said the sales were reported to the USDA by private exporters as required by law. No prices or other details were disclosed, but, based on the current price of corn, the latest sales have an estimated value of about $82 million.
