A 47-year-old Huntington Beach bicycle rider was killed at 2 a.m. Sunday when two cars hit him as he was crossing Pacific Coast Highway at the Brookhurst Street crosswalk.

Police said the driver of the first car stopped, but the driver of the second car fled after hitting Pat Phillip Barron, 47, as he lay on the highway.

The first driver, identified as Edward Henson of Huntington Beach, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, Huntington Beach police said.

The driver of the second car, a small, dark-colored compact, is sought by police. Officers said it is probable that the second car is the one that caused the fatal injuries.

Barron was riding his bicycle from the ocean side of the highway to the north when he was struck by the westbound vehicles, officers said.
