The City Council has approved a resolution to operate an outdoor farmers market in Plummer Park on Sunday mornings.

The market should open in four to six months.

City officials said the market will sell produce, fish, nuts and flowers 20% to 30% below market prices.

Senior citizens in Plummer Park have been buying stale baked goods and spoiled produce from vendors, according to a city report. The new market will assure that farmers bring fresh produce to the community, the report said.

Most of the first-year cost of $25,000 to run the market will go to hire a market manager.
