A memorial service for Priscilla Oaks, the Cal State Fullerton English professor who died in a traffic accident Tuesday, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the south end of the campus arboretum.

It also was announced that a scholarship fund is being established in her memory and will be administered by the Cal State Foundation.

The fund is intended to “continue her work on behalf of refugee and immigrant students,” said Nancy Bridges, an administrative aide in the English department.

Prof. Oaks, 61, died Tuesday night when her car swerved off Laguna Canyon Road and overturned after apparently trying to avoid a pickup truck.

She joined the Cal State faculty in 1969 and taught American literature. Before that, she had been an instructor at UCLA, Harvard, the University of New Mexico and UC Irvine. She had also taught in China from 1980 to 1982 on a Fulbright scholarship.
