British Social Democrat Leader Visiting Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria —
David Owen, leader of Britain’s Social Democratic Party, had talks Saturday with Syrian President Hafez Assad on Syria’s stance on the crisis in Lebanon and other Middle East problems, diplomatic sources said.
Owen arrived Friday night on the first leg of a private Middle East fact-finding tour that will also take him to Jordan, Egypt and Israel, the sources said.
