The United Way is working on an AIDS brochure that will likely get some city and county financing, but it is not expected to spark the controversy caused by two AIDS pamphlets distributed earlier this year. A spokesman for the charity said up to one million brochures, aimed at dispelling myths about the deadly disease, will be printed and distributed, probably beginning next month. Two earlier AIDS leaflets, “Shooting Up and Your Health” and “L.A. Cares,” irked some county supervisors, who said the material was pornographic, and taught drug users to inject dangerous substances safely. The earlier pamphlets were aimed at homosexuals and drug users, but the United Way pamphlet is aimed at the general public.
