Lance Brown of Pasadena has been elected to the board of directors of Haven House, a shelter for battered women and their children.

Jerome Spanier, dean of faculty at the Claremont Graduate School, has been named vice president for academic affairs. Spanier, a former professor of mathematics at the school, will continue to serve as dean of faculty.

Pamela Pesenti of Santa Barbara has been elected to the Caltech board of trustees. Pesenti, 41, represents the third generation of her family to serve on the Caltech board.

Dr. Kathleen Wishner, medical director of the Diabetes Treatment Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, was awarded the Diabetes in Youth Award from the American Diabetes Assn. Wishner practices in Pasadena.

The Rev. Victor P. Abegg has been appointed associate dean of the Cal Poly Pomona School of Science. Abegg, former chairman of the chemistry department, is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Toronto. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1974.

Kenneth Hanna of Pasadena has been named president of the Northeast Los Angeles County Unit of the American Cancer Society.
