Bus Driver Hangs Self After Crash Kills 3
The driver of a bus that plunged off a mountain highway in central Japan on Saturday, leaving three people dead and 61 injured, apparently hanged himself from a tree limb shortly after the accident, police said.
The double-decker bus taking 60 employees of the Nihon Electric Corp. to a resort west of Tokyo skidded off the rain-slick thoroughfare and rolled 90 feet down a steep embankment. The veteran driver, identified by police as Keiichiro Nakano, 44, was found hanging from the branch of a tree about 200 yards from the wrecked bus shortly after the crash. Authorities said they believe Nakano committed suicide to take responsibility for the accident.
