Two men suspected of a series of rapes and robberies in San Diego and Orange counties were arrested Monday in Sacramento, Sgt. Kurt Fettu of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. Sacramento Chief Deputy Val Kobza said the two men were wanted in San Diego and Encinitas for the investigation of three rapes, kidnapings and multiple armed robberies.

Don Wilson Hawkins, 26, and Dale Austin Shelton, 30, both of Seminole, Okla., are also wanted on federal warrants from Oklahoma on counts of rape, robbery, kidnaping and suspicion of murder, Fettu said.

Kobza said Shelton was booked on suspicion of possession of methamphetamines, and Hawkins was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen property and an illegal weapon.

The two men were arrested in northeast Sacramento County when deputies saw them next to a parked car near a car battery that appeared to have been stolen. Kobza said deputies found prescription drugs, credit cards under other names and a sawed-off shotgun when the men were arrested.
