Placentia : Suspect in Slaying Traced to Mexico

A 27-year-old Mexican national has confessed to the September slaying of an elderly Placentia woman but will remain in his homeland, at least temporarily, to stand trial for a more recent murder there, police said.
Placentia detectives said Jose Franco Gonzales was a suspect in the rape and slaying of Beatrice Franco Terrones, 75, whose body was discovered by a family member on Sept. 2 in her home at 323 Baker St. An autopsy showed that Terrones died the day before her body was found.
Investigators said that Gonzales was living across the street from the woman’s home at the time of the slaying.
Police, working with federal authorities in Mexico, traced Gonzales to the small town of Arandas, near Guadalajara, where he was in custody in connection with a homicide committed last week.
Detectives said Gonzales admitted slaying Terrones but added that he will not be extradited until Mexican authorities have prosecuted him for the slaying there.
