Budget Office ‘Czar’ Named

Wendy Gramm, wife of Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Tex.), was named today to a position in the Office of Management and Budget that her boss described as the agency’s “regulatory czar.”

“I guess I’m the ‘regulatory czarina,’ ” said Wendy Gramm, who has been director of the Federal Trade Commission’s bureau of economics since 1983, the same year her husband, elected U.S. representative as a Democrat, switched parties. Her old boss, James C. Miller III, is also her new boss. Miller, the former chairman of the FTC, just took over from David A. Stockman as OMB director.
