First Lottery Checks Mailed

SACRAMENTO —
The state today mailed the first 123 checks totaling about $155,000 to California lottery winners.
Another 420 checks for $100, $500, $1,000, and $5,000 “instant” winners totaling $257,000 will be mailed Friday, controller’s office spokesman Tom Colby said. He said a total of $10,350 had been withheld from five unidentified winners’ checks for various reasons, including state income tax owed from previous years, unemployment insurance, student loans, child-support payments and money owed state agencies.
