A man attacked an elderly woman as she walked to a market in Santa Fe Springs, knocked her to the ground, repeatedly smashed her head on the pavement and gouged her eyes, authorities said. Anthony Delarosa, 38, was arrested and booked for investigation of attempted murder in the attack on the 76-year-old woman, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Pete Fosselman said. The woman was attacked in the parking lot of a gasoline station and convenience store. The assailant made no attempt to steal anything from the woman, Fosselman said. “One eye was forced out at the scene of the attack,” said Bonnie Petersen, a spokeswoman at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier. “The remaining eye was severely damaged, and the sight could not be saved in an emergency operation.” The woman, whose name was not released, was in serious condition, Petersen said.
