Two Killed in N. Calif. Auto Collision

A car carrying four young residents of the Eureka area to a Lutheran religious retreat collided with a station wagon on California 299 West in Trinity County, killing two of them and injuring two others.

David Stegner, 32, of the Trinity County community of Burnt Ranch was arrested on charges of manslaughter and felony drunk driving. Investigating officers said his car was in the wrong lane.

Trinity County Coroner George Files identified the two killed in the accident Friday night as Roy Emil Pierson, 27, of Moscow, Ida., and Rhonda Rene Hess, 23, of Arcata, Calif. Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident between Weaverville and Willow Creek.
