Cambria

Several weeks ago we featured Cambria in the Travel Section. This is the pleasant little village up near Hearst Castle on the Central California coast. The article generated a great deal of reader interest. For a list of vacation rental homes, drop a card to Janet Huff c/o Century 21 Coast Realty, 778 Main St., Cambria 93428. Tipping

Tipping remains a bugaboo with travelers. How much to give the porter at the airport, the hotel bellman, cabbies? A free guide provides the answers for Europe, South America, Asia, the Middle East. (In some countries you don’t put out a penny, according to the guide.) For a free copy of the pocket-size leaflet send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Carolyn J. Yarbrough, IFWTO Tipping Guide, 7432 Caminito Carlotta, San Diego 92120. The guide is also distributed free by Deak-Perera, the dealer in foreign currency (offices in downtown Los Angeles and at LAX).

Pilot Holiday

Private pilots will be winging off to Baja Nov. 1-4 and it’s a steal. Only $40 a day (single) for a room, all meals. Make that $70 for a double. The destination is Hotel Palmas de Cortez, 65 miles south of La Paz, 40 miles north of San Jose del Cabo on the Sea of Cortez. Casual atmosphere. Tennis, swimming, fishing. Rooms face the water. Air conditioning, uncrowded beaches. Border crossing will be at Mexicali followed by a flight along the Sea of Cortez. Contact John Burkhart c/o Flight Log, P.O. Box 39675, Los Angeles 90039. Note: Burkhart is planning another pilot vacation following Thanksgiving to Mulege, also down Baja way.
