Girl Shot to Death at Gang Hangout in South Los Angeles

A 14-year-old girl, shot and killed by a youth at a South Los Angeles gang hangout, was an innocent bystander to an argument that led to the shooting, police said Sunday.

Erika Arafilef was shot Saturday night as the teen-age suspect, who had pulled the gun, struggled with several other witnesses, Detective Rudy Lemos said.

“It was an accident she got shot, but the suspect intended to shoot someone else,” Lemos said.

The suspect fled, but later turned himself into police, who declined to release his name because of his juvenile status.

The incident occurred in an abandoned house at 9803 Anzac Ave., where police say gang members often congregate.
