Torrance Gets New Superior Court Judge
William Beverly Jr., a resident of the Palos Verdes Peninsula who was appointed last week by Gov. George Deukmejian to the Los Angeles Superior Court, has been assigned to Torrance.
The 42-year-old Beverly has been a Municipal Court judge in Long Beach since 1980, handling both civil and criminal cases. As a Superior Court judge, he will earn $77,129 annually.
With the addition of Beverly, there are 11 Superior Court judges assigned to Torrance. Morio Fukuto, presiding judge of the Torrance Superior Court, said Beverly will temporarily be assigned to Judge Frank Baffa’s courtroom. Baffa has been on loan to the California Court of Appeal since October and is scheduled to return in December.
Beverly, a native of Los Angeles, has been an instructor in business law at California State University, Long Beach, and served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations from 1977 to 1980. He is a member of the Long Beach branch of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People.
A graduate of Pepperdine University, Beverly received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1969. He is married and the father of three children.
