Dr. Wallace Stout, Noted Obstetrician, Dies at 63

Dr. Wallace Cornelius Stout, the noted Anaheim obstetrician and gynecologist, died Monday following a stroke and a long bout with cancer, family members said. He was 63.

Stout was a longtime member of the Martin Luther Hospital board of directors and served as the Anaheim hospital’s second chief of staff in 1964-65. Family members said he was the first specialist in obstetrics and gynecology to practice in Anaheim.

Born in Adrian, Mich., in 1922, Stout was graduated magna cum laude in 1949 from the University of Michigan Medical School, where he completed his residency in 1954. He was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the prestigious medical honor society.

Stout also was active in local scouting programs and Indian Guides.

Margaret L. Stout said illness forced her husband into retirement in January, after which he underwent surgeries for cancer. Mrs. Stout said her husband suffered a stroke a month ago. He died at Anaheim Memorial Hospital.

Stout is survived by his wife; three sons, Michael R. of Carlsbad, James D. of Pearblossom and Robert J. of Vista; a sister, Dorothy White of Swanton, Ohio; a brother, Wayne J. Stout of Delta, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Waverly Church in Santa Ana. The Rev. Wayne Faust of the First Presbyterian Church of Anaheim and Harry Stief, director of pastoral care at Martin Luther Hospital, will preside. A private burial service will be held at the Fairhaven Cemetery in Santa Ana.

Contributions may be made to the Dr. Wallace C. Stout Memorial Fund Foundation, in care of Martin Luther Hospital, 1830 W. Romneya Drive, Anaheim, Calif. 92801. Contributions will go toward medical and other services at the hospital.
