The jury in the Richard W. Miller spy case completed its first full day of deliberations without reaching a verdict. Miller, 48, a former FBI counterintelligence agent, is accused of seven counts of espionage and related activity carrying maximum possible sentences ranging from five years to life in prison. The most serious charges are that he conspired to pass and actually turned over to Soviet agents a secret FBI document called “Reporting Guidance: Foreign Intelligence Information” to the injury of the United States. The case went to the federal court jury in Los Angeles on Friday, after an 11-week trial.
