College Soccer Roundup : Walker Scores Two to Lead USIU to a 3-1 SSC Victory Over UC Irvine

Andy Walker scored two goals and had one assist Wednesday to lead United States International University past UC Irvine, 3-1, in a Southwest Soccer Conference match in San Diego. Rachid El Bekraoui added a goal and two assists for the Gulls (4-0-1, 10-3-2). Irvine’s record dropped to 2-4, 3-10-2.

In other men’s action:

Cal State Los Angeles 2, Cal State Fullerton 1--The Titans (8-5-1) took a 1-0 lead at Cal State Los Angeles on Rich Davies’ 12th goal of the season, with an assist by Scott Robbins. But the Golden Eagles (10-2) responded with a pair of first-half goals. Fullerton plays host to Nevada Las Vegas Sunday at 2 p.m.

In women’s action:

UC Irvine 2, Cal State Long Beach 2--The Anteaters came close to upsetting the visiting 49ers, but two late goals by Long Beach halfback Janet Fetig evened the match, and UCI had to settle for a tie.

Irvine (1-10-4) took a surprising 2-0 lead after sophomore midfielder Carmen Dett scored on a pair of corner kicks. But Fetig got Long Beach (10-4-3) back in the match at the 71-minute mark by scoring off a rebound. Then, in the last minute of play, she struck again, scoring on a fast break.

The 49ers had a 34-6 advantage in shots on goal, and the Anteaters’ freshman goalkeeper, Lisa Sittel, recorded 16 saves. UCI plays host to Cal Poly Pomona at 3 p.m. Friday.
