Marvin Hagler was given an OK by his doctor and will be able to defend his undisputed middleweight title Nov. 14 against John (The Beast) Mugabi in Las Vegas as planned, promoter Bob Arum announced.
Hagler, who had a slight muscle strain in his lower back 10 days ago while training, responded well to initial treatment and showed significant improvement at the examination at his hometown of Brockton, Mass.
The Nov. 14 card also includes a North American Boxing Federation middleweight title fight between champion James Shuler and Thomas Hearns. The doubleheader will be shown on closed-circuit television.
Hagler, 31, will be making the 12th defense of the title he won Sept. 27, 1980 by a third-round KO over Alan Minter in London. Hagler is 61-2-2 with 51 knockouts.
