A $57-million renovation and addition is planned at the UCLA School of Engineering & Applied Science, with construction scheduled to begin in the fall of 1986 with completion about a year later.
The existing 328,500-square-foot Boelter Hall and 127,785-square-foot Engineering I building will be retrofitted to accommodate the latest technologies in chemical and civil engineering, computer science and administrative functions.
The 275,000-square-foot addition will consist of the electrical engineering department, mechanical, aeronautical, nuclear engineering and fusion engineering.
The exterior of the five-story steel-framed structure is face brick, in character with the surrounding buildings, dark bronze insulating glass in anodized bronze aluminum frames and white precast spandrel panels. Architecture is a joint venture by Leo A. Daly and KDG (Kennard Design Group), both of Los Angeles.
