Jerry Rhome and Darrell Hennegan to Meet in Karate Match Nov. 13
Jerry Rhome and Darrell Hennegan, the professional karate champions from the United States and Canada, will fight for the North American heavyweight title on Nov. 13 in Atlanta, promoter Jim Abernethy announced.
Rhome, of Atlanta, is 30-2 with 22 knockouts and is the top-ranked contender as well as U.S. champion. Hennegan, of Montreal, has won 13 straight bouts, including 11 by knockouts, and is ranked No. 2.
The winner of the nine-round fight will earn an automatic showdown with world heavyweight champion Brad Hefton.
Rhome, 29, was ranked third in the world seven years ago when he suffered a detached retina in training, forcing his retirement. He returned to the ring six years later and won the PKA heavyweight crown from Jeff Mondt.
Hennegan has been a professional for less than two years and, like Rhome, holds a win over European super heavyweight champ Bruno Vezzutti.
