South Korea virtually assured itself of a spot in next year’s World Cup soccer finals in Mexico with a 2-0 victory over Japan at Tokyo. Japan would have to win the return game at Seoul on Nov. 3 by three goals to qualify. In another qualifying match, New Zealand defeated Israel, 3-1, at Auckland, to move to the top of the Oceania qualifying group.
