USC Woman Wins Singles Title; UCLA Women Take Doubles in ITCA Tennis

Tennis players from USC and UCLA dominated the finals of the Rolex ITCA Southern California Women’s Championships at UC Irvine Sunday.

The four-day tournament was for Division 1 players from Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. The winners advance to the Rolex ITCA Nationals in Houston in February.

In the singles final, Carolyn Kuhlman of USC defeated Maeve Quinlan, also of USC, 6-3, 6-0.

Jennifer Fuchs and Jane Thomas of UCLA defeated Joni Urban and Maria La Franchi, also of UCLA, 6-4, 6-4, in the doubles final.

Sixty-four players competed in singles while 32 doubles teams played in the tournament.

In other action:

UC Santa Barbara Coach Gary Druckman and Dana Bozeman of the Capistrano Racquet Club defeated Dick Gude of Irvine and Tim Downey of Laguna Niguel, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, to win the pro doubles division of the Seventh Lomas San Juan Pro-Am Tennis Tournament at the Capistrano Racquet Club.
