Placentia : Vacant Seat Still Faces Council After Deadlock

Share

Officials hope tonight to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of City Councilman Robert Kuznik.

Appointing a replacement for Kuznik, who resigned effective Sept. 30, is one of two items scheduled for tonight’s meeting. Earlier this month, council members deadlocked while trying to fill the vacancy. Although the officials have narrowed the list of candidates from nine to four, they may nominate additional candidates tonight.

If City Council members cannot agree on a replacement for Kuznik by Wednesday, which marks the 30-day deadline for a new appointment, they may decide to call for a special election, which would cost the city between $10,000 and $12,000.

The four finalists announced following the Oct. 16 meeting are: Emile Conforti, Planning Commission chairman; Carol Downey, Placentia Unified School District teacher; George Petzoldt, Neighborhood Watch member; John Sibley, Orange County employee relations director, and Ronald Wymer, planning commissioner.

The second item on tonight’s agenda is the swearing in of the new city clerk, Edmund M. Ponce.
