Prejudice Suspected

Share

Why is it, in this enlightened age, that book reviewers are so blindly prejudiced against reviewing the work of self-publishing authors?

Quite often, the literary quality of such work equals or surpasses that which is produced by the big-name houses, while selling for a fraction of their prices. Due to excellent typesetting, printing and bindery services, the physical appearances of self-published volumes can be strikingly attractive. Yet, more often than not, the typical book reviewer snubs such material without even looking at it simply because its authors have done it themselves.

It’s time you people stopped discriminating against us on the basis of our publishing methods and started judging our work on its own merit. Self-publishing is a viable alternative, not a stigma! As artists who have legitimately chosen it, we deserve much better treatment.
