Projects in California Capture Builder’s Choice Design Awards

Builder, the official magazine of the National Assn. of Home Builders, has announced several California winners in its annual Builder’s Choice design and planning awards program.

In the production-housing category, Heron Court in Redwood City, by Fisher-Friedman Associates of San Francisco, took the grand award, and Oak Creek Village in Napa, by Sandy & Babcok of San Francisco, won a merit award.

In the custom-housing category, winners included Kalfus Studio, Los Angeles, Steven D. Ehrlich AIA Architects Inc., Venice, grand award; Hogue Residence, Stinson Beach, Pike/Gentry Associates, San Francisco, merit award; River Run, St. Helena, Willis & Associates Inc., San Francisco, honorable mention; Louis Residence, the Sea Ranch, Obie G. Bowman/Architect AIA, the Sea Ranch, honorable mention, and Private Residence, Northern California, Goodwin B. Steinberg Associates, San Jose, honorable mention.

California winners in the overall development category included Villa Vasona, Los Gatos, Fisher-Friedman Associates, San Francisco, merit award; 27th Street Apartments, San Francisco, Backen, Arrigoni & Ross, San Francisco, merit award, and Le Parc, Simi Valley, Johannes Van Tilburg & Partners, AIA, Santa Monica, merit award.

Mission Square in Riverside received a merit award in the commercial development category. That project was designed by Leason Pomeroy Associates of Orange.

This year’s design awards program drew a record 922 entries.
