A $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the man who shot and killed an off-duty North Hollywood Division detective last Thursday was posted by the Los Angeles Police Protective League. Detective Thomas C. Williams, 42, of Canoga Park was ambushed as he picked up his 5-year-old son from a day-care center. Los Angeles police officers have begun wearing half-inch-wide black bands over their silver badges in mourning the dead officer. “Police officers . . . are shocked even beyond the normal outrage they feel when one of their colleagues is murdered,” George Aliano, president of the police union, explained while announcing the reward. “We’ve never had an officer taken out in this deliberate, calculating way. . . .” The reward, Aliano said, comes from union dues. Anyone with information may call the Robbery-Homicide Division at (213) 485-2129. “We hope we can spend the money,” Aliano said.
