Allison Scores Twice as Rangers Defeat Penguins, 4-2

Mike Allison scored his first two goals of the season to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the only National Hockey League game played Monday night.

Allison broke a 1-1 tie at 8:47 of the second period to put the Rangers ahead to stay.

Steve Patrick stripped the puck from Pittsburgh defenseman Joe McDonnell and Allison turned and fired a quick shot past goalie Roberto Romano to make it 2-1.

Mark Osborne gave New York a 3-1 lead at 15:34 of the second period when he beat Romano on the stick side with a slap shot from the top of the left circle.

Allison scored again on a breakaway at 5:19 of the third period. Just after leaving the penalty box, he got behind Penguin defenseman Moe Mantha, took a pass from Willie Huber and flipped a shot past Romano.

Earlier, Mark Pavelich had given the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 5:24 of the first period with his eighth goal of the season.

Former Ranger Mike Blaisdell tied the score at 1:46 of the second period with his second goal. He worked a two-on-one break with Mike Bullard.

Bullard scored a power-play goal with 2:36 left in the game for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins, 0-3-2 in their last five games, were outshot, 36-18.
