Pittsburgh-based GNC reported a net loss for both the third fiscal quarter and nine months ended Oct. 12 due to the settlement of litigation originally filed in 1978 and 1982. The loss for the third quarter was $6.96 million after recognition of a $14-million settlement with Wm. T. Thompson Co. For the three quarters, the company reported a loss of $2.83 million after total 1985 settlements of $17.5 million, including a $3.5-million payment to a competitive retailer recorded in the first quarter.
