Burbank Council OKs Extension for Mall
The Burbank City Council on Tuesday approved a six-month extension for construction of the Towncenter shopping mall, pushing back its scheduled opening until February, 1988.
Representatives of the mall’s developer, Ernest Hahn Inc. of San Diego, told the council earlier this year that they would not be able to meet an August, 1987, deadline for opening the mall because one of the anchor department stores would not be completed.
Although council members criticized the need for another extension for the project, which has been delayed more than a decade, they said the city is committed to building the $158-million center.
