Rights Activist Meredith Loses School Board Vote

CINCINNATI — Civil rights activist James Meredith finished last in a field of seven candidates for the city’s school board Tuesday.
Meredith, the first black student to attend the University of Mississippi and a former University of Cincinnati faculty member, had opposed the school board’s voluntary desegregation plan and charged that none of the black board members represented the black community.
