Walnut : Teachers Win Raises
Teachers in the Walnut Unified School District won a 6% pay raise for this year when the district’s board of trustees and the 275-member Walnut Valley Educator’s Assn. approved an agreement last week after seven months of renegotiating the second year of a three-year contract. Salaries for the 370 teachers and staff covered by the contract will now range from $20,265 a year for a first-year teacher with no experience to more than $40,093 a year for the district’s most experienced teachers, school officials said. Before the agreement, salaries for the district’s least experienced teachers ranked 33rd among the county’s 43 school districts at $17,867 a year, and sixth in the county for its most experienced teachers at $37,824 a year, a county salary survey showed.
