The Public Services and Safety Committee on Wednesday recommended that the City Council allocate $12,800 in transient occupancy (hotel) tax revenues for weekend maintenance of the Gaslamp Quarter.
The funding, if approved by the council, would provide for street-sweeping in the historic redevelopment area for one additional day each week. City crews now clean the Gaslamp twice weekly.
Deputy City Manager John Fowler warned, however, that because hotel taxes will pay for eventual construction of a restroom in the Gaslamp, “these funds will not be available to finance the weekend maintenance program in future fiscal years.”
