Zola Budd, who gained attention when she left South Africa to run for Great Britain in the 1984 Olympics, will compete in a 10-kilometer road race Dec. 1, officials of the Holiday Bowl/Heart of San Diego Marathon and 10K said.

Budd, who collided with Mary Decker Slaney in the 1984 Olympic 3,000-meter final, has become one of the world’s fastest women distance runners.

Officials also said 1984 Olympian Gabriele Andersen-Scheiss has entered the marathon. Andersen-Scheiss, suffering from heat exhaustion, staggered through her final lap on the Los Angeles Coliseum track in the first women’s Olympic marathon, and captured the fancy of the international media.
