A 25-year-old man died in Valley Center Sunday when he was thrown from a car and pinned beneath it, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Ruben Lopez Garcia, a field hand who lived on the Rincon Indian Reservation, was killed shortly before 1 p.m. when the car in which he was riding veered off Valley Center Road and flipped over twice on an embankment, CHP dispatcher Jeff Johnson said.

The driver, Juan Camacho, 47, of Escondido, was not injured, Johnson said. His son, Luis, 18, was taken to Palomar Hospital, where he remained in the intensive care unit Sunday night. A third passenger was uninjured, Johnson said.
