The Region : Gunmen Grab $300,000

Three armed men wearing ski masks and motorcycle helmets overpowered a security guard at San Diego’s Jack Murphy Stadium and held three other stadium employees at gunpoint, before making off with about $300,000 in concession money after Sunday’s sellout San Diego Chargers-Los Angeles Raiders football game. Police Chief Bill Kolender said it was the largest armed robbery in San Diego history. The bandits burst into the stadium security office and forced the only officer still on duty to take them to the basement vault, where money from concession sales is kept. En route, the robbers encountered and took prisoner two employees of a beer supplier and an employee of the concessionaire, who had been in the vault counting the money. The employee in the vault was ordered to fill a duffel bag with the $300,000, then the prisoners were forced to lie on the floor while the gunmen fled, police said.
