British powerlifter Anthony Fitton, called by prosecutors a leading trafficker in illegal steroids, pleaded guilty to charges he smuggled the muscle-building drugs into the United States after jumping bail.
Fitton, 34, was arrested in New Mexico in August, four months after he failed to appear at a sentencing hearing on a February guilty plea to smuggling charges.
Fitton was originally arrested in November, 1984 while crossing the border at Tecate, Calif., 40 miles southeast of San Diego, with 2,090 boxes of Dianabol, an anabolic steroid that can be purchased in Mexico.
Fitton also pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of jumping bail, failure to file income tax returns and possession of a device used to alter passport stamps.
