A 15-year-old Yorba Linda youth remained in critical condition Wednesday after being wounded by a shotgun blast Tuesday evening at the home of a 14-year-old friend and neighbor.

Michael Todd Tuchscher was airlifted to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with a wound in the abdomen, Brea Police Lt. Jim Winder said. The teen-age neighbor, who was not identified because of his age, was being held Wednesday at Orange County Juvenile Hall.

Winder said the shotgun belonged to the suspect’s father. The cause of the shooting was not given.

A neighbor, Nancy Petit, said the two teen-agers were friends.

“What I understand from my own son and what other kids said, it was definitely an accident,” said Petit, whose family took care of Tuchscher’s brothers after the shooting.

“My 12-year-old (son) is in shock, and my 17-year-old (son) has been calling me throughout the day. They’re all really good kids. They (the victim and suspect) are either here or my sons are over there.”
