Huntington Beach : Landlords Given More Time to Fix Apartments

Share

Commodore Circle property owners were given a 30-day extension by the city to correct dozens of health and building-code violations in their 80 run-down apartment units.

Ross Cranmer, a deputy building official for Huntington Beach, said that since the owners agreed in principle to clean up their buildings last week, the city will “allow them some breathing space” to make the repairs.

The group of 10 landlords were ordered last month to correct structural and health violations, including roach infestation, cracked floors and ceilings and exposed wiring by Monday.

“The city will go after the major violations now,” Cranmer said, “but a cracked toilet or missing screens, that is not life-threatening and we are not going to force that at this point.”

The property owners have until Dec. 18 to show the city a definitive rehabilitation plan for the one block cul-de-sac.
