Former Sen. Sparkman Eulogized at Funeral

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Former Sen. John Sparkman, a member of Congress for 42 years and the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 1952, was eulogized Monday at his funeral by family and friends.
Tazewell Shephard III, Sparkman’s grandson, hailed the longtime senator, who died of a heart attack Saturday at the age of 85, as “a direct and honest man with no guile or subterfuge.”
