An agreement between the city and the Santa Fe Springs Shopping Center to purchase a sign with an electronic message board has been approved by the City Council.

The sign, which will be installed at Telegraph Road and Orr and Day Road, will say “Santa Fe Springs” at the top and have a computerized message board directly beneath that will be used by both the shopping center and the city. The sign, expected to be in place in three to six months, will replace an existing sign.

Under the five-year agreement, the shopping center will operate the message board and give the city access to it for city purposes 25% of the time the board is in use. The city, which will pay up to $130,000 for the new sign, will retain ownership of it.
