An arrest warrant for a San Diego State University fraternity member accused of raping an 18-year-old student at a fraternity party early Friday morning probably will not be issued before next week, Deputy Dist. Atty. William Collins said Wednesday.

Collins said he is waiting for laboratory analysis of material gathered by campus police in a search of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house, where the Delta Gamma sorority member was allegedly raped between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Friday. Collins had said the warrant would be issued Wednesday if the victim’s statement and other information supported it.

SDSU authorities have placed the fraternity on interim suspension pending the outcome of investigations by the police and the school’s division of student affairs.

Campus police are still searching for the SDSU student, identified by the victim in a photo lineup, campus Police Chief John J. Carpenter said Wednesday. Police have not found him at his La Mesa apartment, Carpenter said. Police are also continuing to gather information in an attempt to decide whether anyone else was involved in the incident.

The victim told police that she was drinking what she believed to be non-alcoholic punch at the party, but became dizzy and asked to be taken to a room where she could sit or lie down, Carpenter said. The alleged attack took place in the private room at the fraternity house, campus officials have said.
